Mariusz Tarkawian
The artist creates a vision of the golden age of peace, love and happiness; a utopian world without wars nor conflicts – A Dream. He is inspired by images and symbols of peace and love in art history, particularly in ancient mythologies and in contemporary pop culture.
The 366 Rotations series was commissioned by Labirynt Gallery as a web project. For 366 days (from November 1st, 2013 to November 1st, 2014) the artist drew one picture a day, inspired by everyday life, TV news and his travels. The result was a semi-documentary semi-fantastic chronicle of events. At the exhibition a selection of the war-theme pieces inspired by current affairs is displayed. Additionally, Mariusz Tarkawian has created special frescoes for the exhibition, including vitally important images of refugees, fleeing for their life to Europe. The artist also refers to the symbols of peace – a hope for the future.
